1920's wedding photoshoot, inspired by the Great Gatsby

Yesterday, saw the UK release of Baz Luhrman's The Great Gatsby. So this is the perfect time for me to share the details of a photoshoot I took part in earlier on this year. I couldn't believe our luck when I woke up that morning to a bright, clear, sunny day..... perfect photoshoot weather!

The photoshoot was designed and co-ordinated by Louise Harris, the Warwickshire Wedding Planner and was inspired by the 1920's .... the era of jazz music, glamour and flapper girls. Ashorne Hill, in Warwickshire, proved to be the perfect location for this glamorous shoot.

The beautiful Clare Maher was our bride and she wore a stunning bespoke wedding dress made specifically for the day by Jacqueline Doxey.

Jacqueline also provided these stunning shoes and headdress. I loved this headdress as soon as I saw it and it was the inspiration for the wedding cake I provided. I wanted the cake to reflect the elegance and glamour of the 1920's rather than have an art deco feel to it, so as soon as I saw the headdress I knew I had a design I could work on.

Dessert and cake tables are an increasingly popular choice in so many weddings now and I thought that a cake table would work well for our photoshoot. I baked some vanilla cupcakes with a vanilla buttercream frosting, made some white chocolate cakepops and sourced some macarons from a french patisserie in Leamington, Comme-Ci, Comme-Ca. I set this up in the octagon room at Ashorne Hill and was so pleased how the huge windows framed the display.

The bespoke wedding stationary was provided by Melanie's Studio Designs. The talented artist took her inspiration from the bold, extravagant and iconic imagery of the 1920's art deco and created an elegant set of matching stationary.

Our bride and bridesmaids were given a 1920's makeover by Louise from Warwickshire Bridal Hair and Makeup

The flapper girl bridesmaids with their feather boas and long string pearls added to the 1920's feel as well as bringing some fun to the day.

We were treated to live jazz music during the shoot, courtesy of The Top Hats. They performed a great Charleston so that the bride, groom and the bridesmaids could show off their dance moves!

Last, but most definitely not least, a huge thank you must go to Linda Scannell Photography. I love Linda's style of photography and the attention she pays to getting things just right. I think she has captured the essence of the day beautifully and I hope you have enjoyed looking at our work. You can see more of Linda's photos from the shoot on my facebook page.

Wedding cake

This is a 3 tier version of a cake I've made previously. This time the cake is covered in pure white sugarpaste icing and a subtle sparkle. This photo was taken at the wedding venue which had very gentle lighting in the room and a spot light shining down on the cake.

Silver and Blue wedding cake

This 4 tier wedding cake was made to compliment the bride's navy and silver dress. Each tier was a different flavour cake - traditional rich fruit cake, chocolate mud cake, vanilla sponge and eggless chocolate sponge.

Barcelona roadtrip wedding cake

This was such a fun cake to make!
It was designed by the clients and I turned it in to cake for them. Details include the beach with palm trees, a view of Barcelona, a roadtrip through the mountains, tortoises, sunglasses and the couple sitting on the sun.
A truly unique cake.
